¶ Inter-Library Loans
The Inter-Library Loan service at Central Northern Regional Library is for items that cannot be found in our collection, excluding DVDs and Music CDs.
¶ Do’s
- Ask borrower if willing to pay when placing ILL request for them, please note this on the request
- Please check CNRL’s catalogue first, if title is listed as missing, please write that in the notes
- Add as much bibliographic detail as possible, include author, title, ISBN if possible.
- State if particular edition required or if only Large Print wanted
- Please select type of format ie Text, DVD, Sound recording etc
¶ Remember
- Do not request an ILL if less than 2 year old (for Fiction), or Non Fiction if less than 1 year old – ask borrower if would like to submit a purchase suggestion instead
- ILLs can only be renewed by Ita, please contact her as she will have to contact the lending library
- NSW State Library
- does not ILL items from Mitchell library
- does not ILL anything pre-1970 except if call no. JFR then they may lend
- a loan is for 8 weeks with no renewals

- Universities, the National Library and State libraries (except the State library of NSW) charge $30.50 for ILL – this is passed on to the borrower
- We don’t ILL DVDs as a rule, however staff can use their discretion as whether to ILL educational, research type DVDs. We no longer ILL TV series or movies.

¶ Workflow
As per ILL email on 28/7/2025
CNRL has moved from email requests to the new Trove Partners Resource Sharing platform, ReShare. This replaces Libraries Australia Document Delivery (LADD) which we were not previously using. This has resulted in some changes to our workflows and increased supply demand from our own collection.
¶ We no longer require you to provide a suggested lender
- Requests are now made using an automated rota process that fairly distributes requests across library services
- However, we still suggest that you check if it is available before placing a request. If you can’t find it on Trove, ReShare won’t either.
¶ One book per request
- Please only request one title at a time. If you’re asking for a whole series in one request, we then have to create individual requests for the remaining books which is very time consuming
- Requesting ‘any title by this author’ is also very time consuming for us to process, please provide specific title details.
¶ Please ensure you provide an ISBN in your requests
- It cuts down the time it takes for us to locate the item when creating the request in ReShare
- It should be a 13-digit number, older titles may only have 10-digits
¶ Please only request a few titles at a time
- To help us manage the large amount of incoming requests, if your borrower is asking for every title by an author or everything in a series, please try to only place a couple of requests at a time
- We can’t guarantee requests for entire series will come in order – avoid disappointment for the borrower, request the next book once the current title has arrived.
- Feel free to use the manage messages section on a borrowers card to keep track of a borrower’s large requests.
¶ Paid requests are not currently available
- This is still being set up within ReShare
- Another email will be sent out when these requests are up and running again
- This will be for requests that come from State Libraries (other than NSW) and university and special libraries.
